A method and system for limiting a user of a media content and a right issuer and a user terminal. The method includes that: a copyright agent in the user terminal acquires the copyright control information of the current media content carrying the user identity; the copyright agent in the user terminal receives a right verification request of the current media content carrying the current activation user identity and judges whether the current activation user can activate and play the current media content according to the user identity carried in the said copyright control information and the current activation user identity carried in the right verification request, if the user can do, the current media content after being decrypted is provided to a media player, otherwise the current media content is prohibited from being played. The invention can limit the user of the media content according to the actual service demand, thereby the control strength of the media content provider for the media content usage right can be improved.
