Disclosed are a novel 1-fluoro-1,1-bis(arylsulfonyl)methane useful for monofluoromethylation, and a production method thereof. Specifically disclosed is a method for producing a fluorobis(arylsulfonyl)methane represented by the formula (2) below wherein a bis(arylsulfonyl)methane represented by the formula (1) below is treated with a base and then a fluorination reagent is added thereto. (ArSO₂)₂CH₂ (1) (In the formula, Ar represents a substituted or unsubstituted phenyl group or naphthyl group.) (ArSO₂)₂CHF (2) (In the formula, Ar is as defined above.) Also specifically disclosed is a fluorobis(arylsulfonyl)methane (2) represented by the above formula (2) which is a novel compound extremely useful for producing a monofluoromethylated product.
