The invention aims to cause discharge between display electrodes to spread smoothly by setting the discharge gap distance between display electrodes to 125 µm or above even when a step is formed in a dielectric layer and a protective film. An electrode (X, Y) is composed of a transparent electrode (12, 14) and a metal electrode (11, 13) formed on the transparent electrode with thickness greater than the transparent electrode. A dielectric layer (15) is a layer formed by vapor phase epitaxy. Therefore, the dielectric layer of a PDP has a step in the electrode-thickness direction at a height equivalent to the thickness of the metal electrode. In this PDP, the discharge gap distance (t) is set to 125 µm or above.
