<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical transmitter/receiver that can be miniaturized. <P>SOLUTION: The optical transmitter/receiver 1 has the main body 4, with the base body 5 provided on the bottom face side of this main body 4. On the front 5a of this base body 5, there are formed a first and a second cavity 7, 8 each having a recessed shape, with an LD 9 and a PD 12 arranged in the first cavity 7 and the second cavity 8, respectively. The LD terminal electrode 15 of the LD9 is electrically connected to a base body wiring part 19 which is formed on an insulated film 40 in the front 5a through a wire 28. Also, In a light shielding member 20 fixedly laminated on the front 5a side of the base body 5, there is formed a wire housing part 29 for housing the wire 28. As a result, a space for housing the wire 28 is no longer required in the first cavity 7, thereby making the miniaturization of the first cavity possible.
