PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for downsizing a striking tool having an idle-impact preventing mechanism. SOLUTION: This striking tool 101 has a driving element 143 linearly acting in a cylinder 141, a striking element 143 linearly acting via pressure variation of an air chamber 141a of a cylinder 141, and an intermediate element 145 transmitting the linear action of the striking element 143 to a tool bit 119. This tool has a communication part 141b communicating the air chamber 141a with the outside, a valve member 163 opening or closing the communication part 141b, an energizing member 165 applying an energizing force to move the valve member 163 to an opened position, and an action relay member 169 pressed and moved by the intermediate element 145 acting backward together with the tool bit 119 so as to move the valve member 163 to the closed position when the tool bit 119 is pressed to a workpiece. A plurality of acting relay members 169 are arranged in an outer peripheral direction of a cylinder 141 at predetermined intervals, and at least some of them are embedded in the cylinder 141.
