<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which attains shortening of a time to the start of image formation by grasping or estimating an image formation mode executed earlier than the actual start of image formation, and performing appropriately stable driving. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes a judging means which judges whether the image formation mode is a first mode or a second mode, a stable driving execution means for the first mode which carries out the stable driving at a preliminarily-set low speed when the judging means judges the first mode, and a stable driving execution means for the second mode which carries out the stable driving at a preliminarily-set high speed when the judging means judges the second mode.
