PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vacuum cleaner capable of making the behavior of a body appropriately follow the behavior of a controller, and improving the operability. SOLUTION: The vacuum cleaner comprises a transmitter 8 and a receiver 11, one of which is provided in the controller 2 and the other of which is provided on the body 4, for forming a midair propagation channel between the controller 2 and the body 4, and a distance measuring circuit 15 for detecting the distance between the controller 2 and the body 4 based on the state of transmission/receiving of ultrasonic waves from the transmitter 8 to the receiver 11. When the distance detected by the distance measuring circuit 15 is out of a prescribed range, driving of a motor 25 is controlled by a control circuit 14 so that the distance detected by the distance measuring circuit 15 thereafter is within a prescribed range.
