1,042,461. Making gear wheels. DEMAG A.G. March 18, 1963 [March 17, 1962], No. 10654/63. Heading B3A. [Also in Division F2] In the assembly of a gear - wheel having a toothed rim 1 of high carbon or alloy steel connected to a hub 5 by two frusto-conical plates 4 of low carbon steel, one or more cords of low carbon weld metal are deposited on the inner face of the rim while the latter is hot, the weld cords being cold turned prior to shrinking the rim on to the plates 4, which have previously been welded to the hub, so that the weld cords engage the rims of the plates 4. The weld cords are subsequently welded to the plates 4 without pre-heating. Alternatively a narrow ring of low carbon steel may be welded to the inner face of the heated rim 1, the plates 4 being then welded without preheating to the ring. Other modifications include an inner rim of low carbon steel, cast, forged or shrink fitted and welded to the high carbon steel toothed rim. |
