PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display value reading device capable of reading inexpensively a measured quantity displayed by displacement of a pointer, and a remote monitoring system equipped therewith. SOLUTION: An electrode part 2 is arranged on the surface of an indicator 20 which is a reading object and connected to a measuring part 4. The electrode part 2 has a shape wherein the area facing to the pointer 12 is changed corresponding to rotation of the pointer 12. Hereby, the capacitance between the electrode part 2 and the pointer 12 is changed corresponding to rotation of the pointer 12. The measuring part 4 is connected to the electrode part 2 and an outer frame 10 of the indicator 20, and measures the capacitance between the electrode part 2 and the pointer 12 of the indicator 20, The measuring part 4 outputs the measured capacitance value to an operation part 6.
