PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an operation panel unit capable of providing such a structure that no great pressing force will be applied to a switch and a substrate with a reduced number of components and a low manufacturing cost, and to provide a printer using this operation panel unit. SOLUTION: An operation key 34 is provided in an opening 23a of a key case 23 that is opposed to a substrate 24 with a switch 25 mounted thereon in such a manner that the key case 23 covers the substrate 24. A pressing surface 34a of the operation key 34 is located higher than the edge surface of the opening 23a, and is held by a spring part 34b so as to move toward the backside upon a pressing operation. Upon the pressing operation the operation key 34 actuates the switch 25 with its pressing part 34c. The surface of the key case 23 is covered with a main body case 21, and the operation key 34 is exposed to the surface through a loose-fitting hole 21a of the main body case 21. A movement stroke of the operation key 34 is limited by providing a display sheet 22 covering and touching the pressing surface 34a of the operation key 34 and the surface of the main body case around the loose-fitting hole 21a.
