PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sound recording and reproducing device and a compressed audio reproducing method in which simultaneous reproduction (time shift reproduction) during sound-recording can be performed regardless of a compressed audio format, further, a user is prevented from waiting in a silent state. SOLUTION: In the sound recording and reproducing device provided with such a function that input audio data are compressed according to a compressed audio format managing subsequent all information by header information, recorded in a recording medium, while the compressed audio data read out from the recording medium are restored to the original audio data, between start of sound recording and finish of sound recording, temporary head information is made instead of the header information, recorded in the recording medium (S2 to S7), the compressed audio data obtained are recorded successively following the temporary head information (S8 to S10), while the compressed audio data are reproduced using the temporary head information (S21 to S24).
