PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method by which in a process for producing a silver ingot by heating and melting chlorine-containing silver powder in a crucible made of graphite, deoxidizing the obtained molten silver then casting the deoxidized molten silver into a mold, the generation of white smoke caused by the volatilization of silver chloride is prevented to improve a working environment, and further, a silver ingot having a low chlorine content is produced. SOLUTION: In the method for producing the silver ingot by removing only a chlorine component from the silver powder containing a trace amount of silver chloride, the silver powder is heated and melted in the crucible made of graphite in the coexistence of calcium oxide or a calcium salt producing calcium oxide by heating; the calcium oxide containing calcium chloride produced by thermal decomposition reaction is separated away; thereafter, the obtained molten silver is deoxidized, and is then cast into a mold.
