PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inorganic/organic hybrid material having a price competitiveness and preparing an aqueous system. SOLUTION: This method for producing the inorganic/organic hybrid material consisting of an active silicic acid and a water-soluble polymeric substance is provided by performing an alkali metal removal treatment of a silicic acid alkali metal salt in an aqueous silicic acid alkali metal salt solution by an ion-exchanging material, especially a cation-exchanging resin to produce an aqueous active silicic acid solution, mixing the aqueous active silicic acid solution with the water-soluble polymeric substance and recovering a solid portion from the mixed aqueous solution. The inorganic/organic hybrid material can be utilized in various fields as the aqueous solution and coating containing the material itself, and a sheet-formed material, a membrane material and a layer-constituting material of a laminated material formed therefrom.
