PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method efficiently producing hygroscopic polymer particle group without decomposition/deterioration by heat by drying a water-containing particle group. SOLUTION: The method for producing the hygroscopic polymer particles comprises a drying step for feeding hot air to a water-containing particle group, passing hot air through the water-containing polymer particle group and applying heat other than hot air from the side opposite to the side feeding hot air. A drying machine is equipped with (1) a plate for retaining a water-containing polymer particle group, (2) an inlet port for sucking hot air to the interior of the drying machine, (3) an exhaust port for discharging the hot air passing through the water-containing polymer particle group to the outside of the drying machine and (4) a heater for applying heat to a side opposite to the inlet port (2) to the water-containing polymer particle group.
