A user authentication method for short-range communication devices is provided to perform easily the authentication process of a user by using pass key values generated by a user certificate stored in respective short-range communication devices. A certificate for authenticating users is stored in respective short-range communication devices. A first short-range communication device searches for a second short-range communication device having the same unique key value as the unique key value, which is generated by using the certificate(210). When the first short-range communication device authenticates predetermined devices from the searched second short-range communication devices, a user authentication process is performed between the first and second short-range communication devices by using a pass key value, which is generated by using the user certificate.
