An adhesive sheet material comprises a carrier of a textile fabric which is inherently hydrophobic or which has been made of waterrepellant, a continuous impermeable film on one face and a further layer of a dry non- tacky liquid-softenable adhesive on the exposed surface of the film. The fabric may be of cotton, linen, jute, cellulose acetate, regenerated cellulose, a protein, a polyacrylic resin, a polyamide, a polyester or a polyvinyl resin. It may be a woven, non-woven or knitted fabric and may be preliminarily bleached, dyed or printed. It may be rendered hydrophobic by treatment in a bath of a zirconium salt, of a fluorinated resin or a pyridine derivative. It may include a substance which renders it dimensionally stable by treatment with a synthetic resin such as a melamine-urea resin or a urea-formaldehyde resin. The film may be applied as an aqueous emulsion or in an organic solvent and may consist of polyvinyl or poyvinylidene chloride or acrylic resin. The adhesive may be polyvinyl acetate, a protein, farina, starch, dextrine, casein, gums, polyvinyl acetate, polyvinyl alcohol or a polyurethane.</p> |
