ELECTRODELESS DISCHARGE LAMP DEVICE AND LUMINAIRE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrodeless discharge lamp device excelling in a light distribution characteristic by miniaturizing an appliance shape; and to provide a luminaire using it.

SOLUTION: The electrodeless discharge lamp device comprises: an electrodeless discharge lamp 1 composed by forming a tube with a discharge gas filled in its inside into a loop-like shape; a ring-like core 2 externally fitted to the tube of the loop-like electrodeless discharge lamp 1; and an induction winding wound around the core 2 and connected to a high-frequency power source. The cross-sectional areas of the core 2 in planes including the axis L of the electrodeless discharge lamp 1 are nearly equal to one another in the respective cross sections, and, for the length of the core 2 in the direction along the axis L of the electrodeless discharge lamp 1, the length on the side of an appliance mounting part of the loop-like electrodeless discharge lamp 1 is set greater than that on the side of an appliance light extraction part thereof.
