PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To execute data transmission by using a data rate most suitable for an antenna radiation pattern. SOLUTION: A base station 801 transmits a pilot signal in a specific direction with a narrow directional beam pattern by using an individual pilot channel of a first slot (S323). A wireless terminal 802 existing in the specific direction receives the pilot signal so as to determine the data rate corresponding to reception quality of the pilot signal (S302). The wireless terminal 802 transmits a signal for requesting the determined data rate to the base station 801 (S324). The base station 801 receives the signal so as to transmit data to the wireless terminal 802 with the beam pattern in the same direction as the direction of transmitting the pilot signal, by using a data channel of a second slot after a predetermined slot from the first slot corresponding to the requested data rate (S313, S325).
