PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new structure of a surface acoustic wave device in which defect caused by concentration of a displacement of a surface acoustic wave onto a surface layer part can be reduced. SOLUTION: The surface acoustic wave device 10 includes a base layer 12, a piezoelectric body layer 14 arranged on the base layer, and an electrode structure 15 formed on a front or rear face of the piezoelectric body layer. The surface acoustic wave device 10 is characterized in that an acoustic relaxation layer 13 with acoustic impedance smaller than that of the base layer and greater than that of the piezoelectric body layer is interposed between the base layer and the piezoelectric body layer.
