PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a select assist device for an automatic transmission, having a higher degree of freedom in layout with a reduced size of a select bar and select bar operating force property as required, while actualizing range change-over operation during fail with the mechanical connection of the select bar to a select position change-over device. SOLUTION: D-preceding PI control is performed by subtracting a second drive command value from a first drive command value. Besides, an operating speed estimating part 32 for estimating an operating speed to be used for computing the second drive command value as a D control component introduces a false model for a transmission system to the select position change-over device, as a stage estimator, whereby an operating speed computing part 322 for estimating the operating speed is formed to compute an operating speed estimated value from a spring constant and an operating position found by a relationship between the operating position and the spring constant, and the drive command value.
