A driving apparatus of a backlight assembly for an LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) is provided to drive normally another light emitting diode irrespective of the breakdown of other light emitting diodes, thereby maintaining favorable image quality. First to the n-th light emitting diodes of a light emitting diode string(300) are arrayed in series and connected and irradiated by receiving the light emitting diode driving voltage. The first to the n-th switching members(260-1~260-n) are connected in parallel to each other correspondingly to the light emitting diodes. The switching operation of the switching members is controlled by the light beam irradiated from the light emitting diodes. The first to the n-th resistors(R1~Rn) are connected in parallel to each other correspondingly to the light emitting diodes and the switching members. The switching member includes a photo-coupler for controlling the generation of bias according to the operation of the light emitting diode. The first switching device is driven according to the operation of the photo-coupler. A floating switch switches the voltage supplied from the output stage of the first switching device. The second switching device is driven according to the voltage applied through the floating switch.
