PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a PTC element with fully suppressed deterioration of the element when subjected to thermal history after a lapse of a long time since its production. SOLUTION: The PTC element 1 includes a PTC element body 10 containing a high polymer matrix and conductive particles, a pair of electrodes 14 in contact with the PTC element body 10, and a protective layer 20 for covering the body 10 to have it sealed. The protective layer 20 contains a cured material layer 21 formed by reaction of epoxy resin and a thiol-based curing agent and a filler 22 made of a material less oxygen-permeable than the layer 21 and dispersed in the layer 21.
