PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a high quality image display by preventing displaying of the shadow of a spacer due to the charging of the spacer. SOLUTION: A spacer SPC supports a rear panel 1 and a front panel 2 and the spacing of these two panels at a prescribed value. The spacer SPC and a jointing material FG are given negative resistance temperature characteristics. When the temperature of the display panel becomes high, the resistance value of the spacer SPC decreases, and at the same time, the resistance value of the jointing material FG decreases. In contrast, when the temperature of the display panel becomes low, the resistance value of the spacer SPC increases; and at the same time, the resistance value of the jointing material FG increases, and the resistivity of the both is balanced with respect to the temperature change. Thereby, even if the temperature of the display panel changes, electrostatic charge will not be generated in the spacer SPC, and the occurrence of shadow of the spacer SPC due to charging will be suppressed.
