<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form an image with stable and excellent image quality while making various kinds of toner having different characteristic usable in an image forming apparatus for forming a toner image by using the toner in a developing device constituted to be attached to/detached from an apparatus main body, and its control method. <P>SOLUTION: The multilevel toner image is formed as a patch image and its density is detected by a density sensor 60, and the content of a gradation correction table applied to correct gradation is updated on the basis of the result of detection. The density detected on an intermediate transfer belt is converted into final image density by an OD value conversion table 124 and then served for control. Since data stored in the OD value conversion table 124 are data read out of the memory provided in the developing device, the various kinds of toner can be used by individually setting the data for each developing device. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
