In a gas-blast switch having two series connected main breaks 4, 5, each with an auxiliary break 23, 25 and a resistor 26 in parallel therewith, both the main and auxiliary breaks being in gas-filled enclosures 3, 27 and the main breaks having oppositely directed fixed hollow contacts 4 associated with a common exhaust valve 16, the movable auxiliary contacts 23 are coupled to the movable part of the exhaust valve so as to be closed, and thus to connect the resistors in parallel with the main breaks, while the exhaust valve is open by a hollow rod 17 which serves also to vent the interiors of contacts 23 while the exhaust valve 16 is open. The movable contacts 5 of the main breaks are also hollow and are associated with further blast valves 11 operated in conjunction with the contact-operating device 7. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown), the exhaust valve and therefore the auxiliary contacts are operated during closing as well as opening of the main contacts. In a further modification (Fig. 3, not shown), the auxiliary contacts are operated by the exhaust valve only during opening of the main contacts and are operated separately without the exhaust valve during closing. |
