PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform a suitable choke cleaning corresponding to the elapse of time after the preceding cleaning operation. SOLUTION: The liquid injection device includes an ink cartridge 33 for storing ink, a recording head 29 for injecting the ink from nozzles, a tube 38 for supplying the ink in the ink cartridge 33 to the recording head 29, an intake pump 37 for applying negative pressure to the nozzles of the recording head 29 to intake and discharge the ink, a choke valve 40 for opening/closing the middle part of the tube 38, and a cleaning control means 43 for controlling the cleaning operation by controlling the intake pump 37 and the choke valve 40 to start intake with the choke valve 40 closed, to release the choke state, and to perform intake. The cleaning control means 43 controls the choke valve to change the choke time for keeping the choke valve in the choke state during the cleaning operation, corresponding to the elapse of time after the preceding cleaning operation.
