PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk drive and its control program, which discriminate the color changing layer on an optical disk and correctly form images or detect image information, on the layer. SOLUTION: The optical disk drive forms images on the color changing layer of an optical disk made of photosensitive or heat sensitive materials. It has: a driver to turn the optical disk; a processor to irradiate the color changing layer with the laser beam from a semiconductor laser at a predetermined processing speed to form images in the direction the disk turns; a divided area allocator to assign the divided areas obtained by radially dividing the whole disk by the number determined by the disk revolution speed and the processor speed to the optical disk; and a discriminator to discriminate the position on the color changing layer in the direction the disk turns, based on some divided areas using a certain divided area among the divided areas as the reference position on the color changing layer.
