PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet material reverting device, capable of reversing sheet material in simple constitution, and an image forming device using that. SOLUTION: The sheet material reversing device comprises a first carrying passage 40 to guide the sheet material in a first direction, and a second carrying passage 42 branched from a branch point P in the middle of the first carrying passage 40 to guide the sheet material in a second direction. For transfer of the sheet material from the first carrying passage 40 to the second carrying passage 42, the sheet material passing the branch point P is reversed to go backward in the first carrying passage 40, while the rear end of the sheet material is let into the second carrying passage 42. At the time of reversing, a pair of drive force switching carrying rollers 36 disposed downstream of the branch point in the first carrying passage are separated from each other, so that the sheet material can be reversed by weight of the sheet material.
