PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an image forming apparatus improved so as not to cause trouble such as blocking and adverse influence on toner after fixing, and the difference of glossiness between front and back surfaces in double-sided copying. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus equipped with a fixing device which fixes a toner image on a recording material by heating and pressuring the recording material on which the toner image has been formed in a nip part N formed by a fixing member and a pressure member is equipped with a compressed air blowing means capable of blowing compressed air and also switching a blowing direction. After the compressed air blowing means blows the compressed air to the edge part of the recording material passing through the nip part N so as to peel the recording material from the fixing member, it switches the blowing direction of the compressed air and blows the compressed air toward the surface part of the conveyed recording material.
