PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a test method of an optical anisotropic film capable of calculating refractive index anisotropy of three figures or above less than a decimal point and an accurate refractive index value by easy calculation without performing complicated data processing. SOLUTION: With respect to the optical anisotropic film, transmission phase differenceΔ<SB>0</SB>when light with a wavelengthλenters at an incident angleθ<SB>o</SB>is measured and transmission phase differenceΔ<SB>T</SB>when the light with the wavelengthλis incident at an incident angleθ<SB>T</SB>is measured and, further, either one of reflection amplitude ratio angleΨ<SB>R</SB>or transmission amplitude ratio angleΨ<SB>T</SB>when the light with the wavelengthλis incident at an incident angleθ<SB>R</SB>is measured. The refractive index of the optical anisotropic film is calculated on the basis of the measured transmission phase differenceΔ<SB>o</SB>, the transmission phase differenceΔ<SB>T</SB>and the reflection amplitude ratio angleΨ<SB>R</SB>or the transmission amplitude ratio angleΨ<SB>T</SB>to test the optical anisotropic film.
