PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multi-optical axis photoelectric sensor which easily changes setting of a muting area. SOLUTION: This article passage detection system 1 comprises: an identification tag 21 as identification information holding means attached to a workpiece 2; and a reader 22 connected to a controller 9 and capable of reading the identification information held in the identification tag 21. The controller 9 as nullification means decides an optical axis to nullify light-shielding judgment based on the identification information inputted from the reader 22, and nullifies light-shielding judgment relating to the optical axis, i.e., executes muting.
