PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and method of receiving a remote control signal for decreasing a decode error at an operation object apparatus side and capable of responding to quick depression of another key even when a remote control key is multiply depressed or various noises are caused in the depression of the remote key. SOLUTION: The remote control light receiving section 35 of the receiving apparatus of the remote control signal receives a key code signal transmitted from a remote control transmitter 40. The receiving apparatus of the remote control signal includes processing means that distinguishes a received key code signal from keys such as a sound volume key continuously operated and keys such as a power key not continuously operated, and applies confirmation processing to the received key code signal. The processing means executes different processing to the distinguished key code signals for each of their kinds. Thus, even when the depression of, e.g. the power key is temporarily interrupted during consecutive depression of the power key, states of OFF to ON and ON to OFF are not caused.
