PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrial method for easily and efficiently producing a high-purity branched alkyl bromide which is an industrially important compound as a useful raw material for a medicine, an agrochemical, a dye, a perfume or the like. SOLUTION: The method for producing the branched alkyl bromide (e.g. 2-ethylbutyl bromide and 2-ethylhexyl bromide) by brominating a branched alkyl alcohol (e.g. 2-ethylbutanol and 2-ethylhexanol) by using hydrogen bromide involves carrying out the reaction while removing water generated as a byproduct.
