PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attempt a further simplification of driving force switching operation and shortening of switching operation time in a configuration which performs driving force switching by a movement operation of a carriage. SOLUTION: A switching holding means 60, which displaces a power transmission gear 71 and holds it either at a first engagement position where it engages with a first transmitted gear 72 or at a second engagement position where it engages with a second transmitted gear 73, comprises a power switching member 61 and a first restricting member 63. When the carriage 46 is in a printing region side, the action of the power switching member 61 is restricted by the first restricting member 63 and a main frame 64, holding the power transmission gear 71 at the first engagement position. With the movement of the carriage 46 to the home position, the power switching member 61 swingingly operates to directly displace the power transmission gear 71 to the second engagement position, and the power switching member 61 is restricted again by the carriage 46 and the first restricting member 63.
