PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a home electric appliance which enables energy saving at night without another exterior casing. SOLUTION: In a home electric appliance (an electric kettle 10) which controls load components (heaters 16, 17, or the like) installed in an exterior casing according to a program set by a control means (a microcomputer 30) beforehand and displays working conditions and operating conditions by a semiconductor light emitting device 28 connected with an electrically-conducting path 31 for light emission, the control means and the semiconductor light emitting device 28 are further connected with an electrically-conducting path 33 for detection, which is interposed with a voltage amplifying means 34, illuminance can be detected when the semiconductor light emitting device 28 is not lit, and the control means performs a power saving which the enables the control/stop of operation of at least a part of the load components when the detected illuminance is less than a threshold value set beforehand.
