1,118,098. Applying tear strips to wrappers. AMF-SASIB S.p.A. SCIPIONE INNOCENTI BOLOGNA. 13 July, 1966, No. 31495/66. Heading B8C. Reinforced tear strips are secured to a continuous (cellulosic) wrapper web, two or more strips being cut from the web margin, adhered together by the use of adhesive or solvent, and stuck to the web aided by heating means, the above process being continuous. The machine forming the wrapper includes disc knives 1, 2, cutting strips S 1 , S 2 , from a web N. An adhesive or solvent applicator 3 contacts the strip S 1 which is then adhered to strip S 2 on roller 14; the reinforced strip S thus formed is brought into contact with a similar applicator 5 and is then adhered to the web N 1 on a roller 33. Pressure applied by a brush 21 and a heated plate 22 improves the adhesion. U-shaped notches 19 may be out on the web N by a punch 20 mounted on a roller 31 thereby providing a grasping tab for the tear strip. A rotary cutter 23 on roller 37 severs the strip adjacent the tabs. The continuous web is severed by a rotary cutter 24 whose blade is such as to cut the web N 1 but avoid the tabs. The strip S can be coloured at intervals E by means of a revolving member 6 so that the grasping tab may be readily identified. Alternatively, if the web material is transparent, the adhesive applied at 3 or 5 may be coloured; or the web N itself may have a coloured margin, Fig. 5 (not shown). |
