Golf balls are made by applying a cover composition comprising a mixture of a sulphur-vulcanizable polymer selected from a natural balata and a crystalline synthetic polymer of a C4-C6 conjugated diolefinic hydrocarbon having at least 75% transfiguration in its molecular structure and a compound of the formula R-N(R11)-Sx-N(R111)-R1 where R and R1 are H or organic radicals, R11 and R111 are organic radicals or R and R1 together or R11 and R111 together, or both may form a heterocyclic ring with the N atom to which they are attached, and x is 1 to 4, to a core and vulcanizing the cover by subjecting it to the action of a hydrochloric or hydrobromic acid, preferably in solution in an inert liquid medium. Other polymers may be incorporated into the cover composition.
