An image capturing apparatus having distance measurement functions is provided to use an image sensor for capturing an image of an object as a light receiving element for distance measurement, thereby removing the necessity to install a special light receiving element and accordingly miniaturizing the image capturing device as well as reducing costs. An image capturing apparatus comprises the following parts: an image sensor(30) for capturing an image by receiving reflected light; a distance-measuring light-emitting device(22,24) for irradiating an object with spot light; and a control circuit which drives the distance-measuring light-emitting device, detects a spot light position of the distance-measuring light-emitting device from the image captured by the image sensor, and obtains a distance from the detected position to the object.
