PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means for rapidly cleaning up the environment polluted with a volatile aromatic hydrocarbon. SOLUTION: A new microorganism has an ability to degrade the volatile aromatic hydrocarbon and belongs to the genus Azoarcus.
