PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus that can be downsized without incurring an increase in the number of components wherein the possibility of wiring caught between an original cover and an apparatus main body can be precluded. SOLUTION: The image reading apparatus is provided with the original cover openably/closably supported by the apparatus main body while being turned around a turning center via a hinge 47, and the original cover is provided with an automatic paper feed mechanism. The hinge 47 is slidably supported by the apparatus main body 42 nearly in an orthogonal direction to an original glass, and the hinge 47 is formed with a holding unit 47d for holding the wiring 58 from the apparatus main body 42 to the automatic paper feed mechanism. The wiring 58 is arranged by traversing the turning center C, the hinge 47 is provided with a slide unit 47a slidably inserted to a slide hole formed to the apparatus main body 42, and the holding unit 47d is provided to the slide unit 47a.
