PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To raise the transmission speed compared with that using a piezoelectric element for generating compressional waves, and to improve the quality of the data transmission. SOLUTION: A data processor circuit 10 generates transmission data and reads the contents of received data. A transmission circuit 11 converts the transmission data generated by the data processor circuit 10 into transmission signals of impulsive voltages, corresponding to bit series in the transmission circuit 11. A transmission element 1 has a structure of a heating body 23 laminated via an insulating layer 22 on a board 21 made of a radiative material, and locally changes the temperature of a medium contacted with the heating body 23, to generate a compressional wave according to the density change accompanying with the temperature change, when the heating body 23 is energized. The transmission signal outputted from the transmission circuit 11 is applied to the heating body 23 of the transmission element 1, to generate compressional wave corresponding to one cycle with sinusoidal variation in the density.
