The structure (10) for a body of a private motor vehicle has a floor pan (12) to which are connected longitudinal supports (18) or sills (14), with at least one vertical support (20) per side which are rigidly connected to the sills. A lateral stiffening cross member (16) is installed above the floor pan in the region of the vertical supports and similarly fastened to the sills. A transversely orientated strut (26) is provided above each sill and rigidly connected to the vertical support and supported on the cross member.
