PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a voice codec selecting method and a call control server for enabling one-dimensional selection of a voice codec to be performed, and for enabling the most suitable voice codec to be exchanged thereto, in an IP telephone system. SOLUTION: The voice codec selecting method and the call control server select the voice codec in the IP telephone system, including a plurality of end point devices capable of being freely set any one from among one or more voice codecs as the voice codec to be used. The method comprises the steps of holding at least one codec identification name for identifying each of the end point devices for each combination which forms a pair by any two from among the end point devices; determining one codec identification name, corresponding to one combination in every generation of a call connection request between two end point devices corresponding to the one among the combinations; and setting the corresponding voice codec to the end point device as the voice codec to be used.
