PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical controller which can restrain a semiconductor laser from unpreparedly lasing by setting an appropriate bias electric current even at any environmental temperature. SOLUTION: An LDIth detection operation section 82 provided in an ASIC 80 detects a threshold electric current Ith lased by a laser diode on the basis of an output (LD monitor value) of a photodiode corresponding to the luminous energy of a laser diode. An Ith condition-specific setting Table 91 sets a bias control PWM for image formation by acquiring a factor corresponding to the Ith from a register 95 and multiplying the Ith by the factor, the controller can well restrain the laser diode LD from unpreparedly lasing.
