The marker (1), assisting the surgeon in locating an operating area inside a body part, is designed as a hollow sphere (2) made of plastic. The element (2) is covered by a reflecting layer (3). Granules of plastic or glass are mixed with aluminum-, gold- or silver-powder and sprayed or painted onto the surface of the sphere (2) when in a liquid state. The element (2) can also be dipped into the substance. The granules can be added from the start or cast onto the moist coating (3) in a second step. Each marker (1) is provided with radial slot (5) for being joined to a holding element.
