The pump laterally sucks so much of outside air in addition to the resulting regeneration solution and the outside air is not fallen below the low-pressure limit value on the suction side of the pump. Before the regeneration steps, a back rinsing procedure is carried out. The regeneration procedure for an exchange container (4) of a water softening plant, comprises passing the exchange container with a regeneration solution of an inlet (8) to an outlet (10) of the same, and pumping of the regeneration solution resulting at the outlet with a pump (20) operated in a snuffling operation. The pump laterally sucks so much of outside air in addition to the resulting regeneration solution and the outside air is not fallen below the low-pressure limit value on the suction side of the pump. Before the regeneration steps, a back rinsing procedure is carried out, which exhibits back rinsing of the exchange container of the outlet to the inlet with water and pumping of the water leaking out from the inlet with the pump, whose suction-side is connected with the inlet. The exchange container is operated before beginning and after the end of the regeneration procedure in the normal operation. After the regeneration steps, a displacement procedure is carried out, which exhibits introducing water into the inlet of the exchange container and pumping the liquid resulting at the outlet with the pump, which is operated in the snuffling operation and which sucks so much of outside air in addition to the resulting liquid, and the outside air is not fallen below the low pressure limit value on the suction side of the pump. Filling a storage vessel (6) for regeneration solution is carried out and the water is introduced into the storage vessel. A washing procedure is carried out, which exhibits passing the exchange container with water of the inlet to the outlet of the same and pumping the water leaking out from the outlet with the pump, whose suction-side is connected with the outlet. The pump in its suction side exhibits a mono-stable aeration valve that is closed in the exit position and a control (24) for the control of the aeration valve is intended. The control of aeration valve is operated in such a manner that it is opened, while the pump is operated in the snuffling operation. Various opening degrees of the aeration valve are adjustable. The pump is operated during the entire time of the regeneration procedure. The pump promotes the liquid resulting on the suction face of the pump to more highly convenient sewer line. Between the execution of the normal operation, back rinsing procedure, regeneration steps, extrusion procedure, filling and/or washing, a change-over process is carried out, in which no liquid results on the suction side of the pump, and the pump is operated in snuffling operation during the change-over process, so that the pump sucks so much of outside air, which is not fallen below the low pressure limit value on the suction side of the pump.
