In a gear-shaving machine a feed means includes a link 38 which moves into alignment with the direction of feed as full-depth feed is reached. A feed-screw (24) is rotated by a hand wheel (28) and a worm gear 32, 30. The top of the screw (24) bears against a block connected by a link 38 to a link 44 pivoted to a block 48 engaging the knee 22. One end of the link 44 is pivoted to a link 66 which can be moved upwardly against a stop 68 by an air-operated device 62 for a period determined by a timer 70. The speed of movement is determined by a dashpot 74. The toggle link 38 may go slightly overcentre in its full-feed position determined by a surface 84. |
