<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hybrid vehicle whose engine is efficiently operated to reduce total fuel consumption. <P>SOLUTION: The SOC lower limit of a main electric storage device, i.e., the requirement for starting the engine, is changed from its normal value LLIM to a lower reduced value #LLIM only if a driving force by a motor generator is not requested. If the generation of the driving force from the motor generator is not requested, the electric power discharged from the main electric storage device is limited to relatively small loads such as an air conditioner and low-voltage auxiliaries. Based on a shift position obtained, a controller determines whether or not the generation of the driving force from the motor generator is required, and changes the SOC lower limit for protecting the main electric storage device from an overdischarge. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
