<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve such a problem that when switching a voice communication mode, a videophone communication mode and a television broadcast browsing mode in a mobile phone with a camera, the switching can not be performed at proper timing because a complicated operation is required for the switching. <P>SOLUTION: The mobile phone includes a camera 401, a frame memory 402, a display 403, an operation key 404, a display control part 405, a call processing control part 406 and a whole control part 407, a radio part 408, a state managing part 209 and a remaining battery level detecting part 210. A distance between a user and the portable telephone set is determined on the basis of defocusing and contrast deviation of the user's image data photographed by a camera to thereby switch to the voice communication mode, for example, when the user's ear is close to the camera and to a proper communication mode suitable to the used state of the portable telephone set called as a videophone communication mode when the user's ear is far from the camera.
