PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suitably carry out face recognition according to an external factor such as a change of imaging environment. SOLUTION: This personal identification device comprises a registered data storage section 120 storing registered data including feature data of a registered user's face; a recognition parameter storage section 122 storing recognition parameters; an image determining section 112 determining whether the image state of the user's face image input from an imaging device 110 is appropriate; an adjusting section 114 adjusting the setting of the imaging device 110 or changing the recognition parameter according to the determined result of the image determining section 112; a feature extracting section 116 extracting feature data of the user's face from the face image; and a face recognizing section 124 comparing the extracted feature data with the registered data and recognizing whether the user is registered based on the compared result and the recognition parameter.
